Diving Fitness Examinations

Diving can be just as exciting as it can be risky. Divers expose themselves to a number of health risks that require proper preparation.

With our comprehensive diving fitness examination, you ensure medical concerns will not get in the way of your diving adventure. We strictly adhere to German Underwater and Baromedical Society standards (Gesellschaft für Tauch- und Überdruckmedizin e. V., GTÜM). Dr. Eversheim holds the Diploma Diving Fitness Examination of GTÜM.

Upon passing a diving fitness examination, you will receive a medical release issued in accordance with GTÜM standards and recognised by international diving associations such as CMAS and PADI. This release is required for both beginner and advanced diving programmes.

GTÜM regulations mandate medical diving fitness examinations every three years for divers 18 to 39 years of age. For divers under the age of 18 and over the age of 39, an annual examination is required.

An individual diving fitness examination comprises:

  • a medical history and diving experience
  • a comprehensive physical exam
  • pulmonary function testing
  • a resting ECG
  • a stress ECG, mandatory for divers over 39 years, for younger divers if indicated
  • a chest x-ray if indicated
  • further laboratory tests if indicated such as blood count, inflammatory markers, blood sugar levels, and a urine test
  • a medical consultation
  • a medical certificate of diving fitness
